miners of Caerau pt2
here are some more illustrations for my current project revolving around the miners of Caerau. there are also illustrations with the lyrics from Max Boyce's song "Duw its hard". i feel it really sums up the attitude of people and of miners it was a hard life, and they deserve respect. the first few are pencil drawings and the last ones are watercolour.

dredd aint the only judge..
i was looking into the story behind britcit in the old 2000 ads and found out that there were English and Scottish judges. naturally i was confused to see wales had nothing..it appears they are just nomads referred to as "Gaels" but i thought it right to create my own version of a welsh judge...judge Dai
judge Dai
Britcit judge
Calhab judge
judge Dredd
miner of Caerau
for a current project im in the middle of illustrating the story of the decline of the coal industry in wales. its a sad tale although there are still collierys around there arnt as many as there were in the 19th century. its also a personal story due to my family having come from a mining backround. so heres a miner from the same little town as my family, caerau sittuated in the llynfi valley.
drokk its dredd..
due to judge dredd being remind i thought id illustrate mega city 1's best street judge enjoy :)

colour for a change..
well for a current project im doing at the moment im looking at a reenactment group in cardiff. they are called the cardiff castle garrison and portray medieval life in 1370. the images ive done are of a welsh longbowman from flynt dressed in their typical green and white tunics. the other images are of a welsh miner and a tramp for my other projects.

current scribblings
have got a couple of projects on the go at the moment. one entitled "plight" and one entitled "influence". for the first project i thought to look into the homeless and maybe the closing/disasters of the welsh coal industry. i myself having family from caerau in the llynfi valley which was a mining town. so its quite a personal project. the idea i have at the moment just involves some very angular figures which i intend to make into a stop motion. the reason i used bright colours was to make them stand out more due to the fact that the homeless are usually ignored by the public.

dark times bring grim times..
well i haven't been as ordered these few months (well Christmas an all..) but I'm back into the world that is drawing and have many ideas for this new year. the first is a comic that follows the hard life of a man who's trying to forget his past but it always rears its ugly head. the sketches bellow are me trying to sort out what the character looks like and some poses for the action scenes.

a dabble here aand there..
well what can i say. its been a very long time since i put anything up on the old blog but got some recent things to show. theres a narrative which is six images long, the style is based upon Denys Shorts painting "Chapel and tip" which is on show in the Cardiff museum. the second piece is based on a story from Oliver Sacks book "the man who mistook his wife for a hat". i was tasked to choose one of the storys and create a drawing based upon it, featuring key words and assciated imagry.
